One of the elements that most influence the Constitution of a country or a sovereign territory is the fact of being or considering itself independent of other outside or external interference. Not all the territories of the planet can be said to be independent since even today there are disputes over different spaces. However, most of the countries in this world are established on the basis of the idea of independence as a value to be achieved.
Independence as an elementary condition to build a community
Since peoples are peoples and civilizations have been built in different parts of the planet, there has been a notion that is one that tells us that in order to exist and subsist, a people must be governed independently of others. In all the history This idea has been the basis of many and innumerable conflicts that involved the intention of one people to dominate another and the consequent struggle to remain independent of the attacked people.
Both empires and colonies are political terms that speak to us of a situation in which the independence and freedom of those who are dominated by another do not exist or are not respected. This has always been normal among different peoples or civilizations and it is only recently that the
self determination of peoples and their independence from external forces as one of the human rights most important groups. Can there be a government that is not independent?
In addition to the ethical and moral debate that exists regarding the need for peoples to be independent, there is also the much more pragmatic discussion that establishes the idea that a State cannot function properly if its institutions are not free or if they depend on external agents that try to influence in them. In this sense, independence becomes something much more difficult to define since even when the peoples are officially free may suffer interference from other countries or situations that determine their political future.
It is not possible for an independent government to exist if the decisions of its members are not respected internationally. rulers, if their borders are not respected or if their prerogatives are directly or indirectly influenced.
Independence does not end in politics
While we usually think of the part policy when we talk about independence, reality shows us that it is the economic independence of a country that It also influences their freedoms and the ability to make decisions for and for the people who It constitutes.
Thus, countries indebted or dependent on foreign powers, alliances with common markets or included within the area of influence of more powerful countries can be independent at the political level but not at the economic level and this has very dark consequences for the peoples since they are left in the middle of discussions or pulls from the governments that more power they have.
