Importance of Political Representation
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
Since the first human communities, the concept of representation has developed in different terms and forces. policy. It is the action by which a community chooses with a greater or lesser degree of awarenesspeople that they are going to act for the common benefit and that they must then be in charge of governing, governing or making decisions for all.
What is the representation of political reality? decisions of a community
To understand what political representation is and how it is established, we can say that all Human communities have always needed to choose suitable people to carry out the tasks of government and order. Thus, from very early societies have given themselves political leaders who were in charge of state and government decisions. In some cases, these leaders reached that position for peculiar feats, others for showing themselves prepared for it, and others for authoritarian reasons.
Political representation can then be described as the fact by which a person or a group of people acts on behalf of an entire community, making decisions that have to do with community organization, the use and disposal of resources, laws, social control, economy and culture, among others.
Was there always political representation? Two ways of looking at the same issue
One way of understanding the social and political process that we want to explain here is to explain it from two different places. If we believe that political representation has always existed, we must point out that this is the case, since whenever there has been a need for a human community to be governed (which has always existed), societies have given themselves political figures whose main functions were to be in charge of the political destinies of the collective.
However, this position comes into question when we observe that not all forms of government have meant a clear and real political representation. This is the case, for example, of monarchies, theocracies or tyrannies, all governments where those who those who hold power do so without possible questioning and where there is no place to discuss any of their measures or decisions.
Democracy as the fullest form of representation
Once we have established what political representation is, we must say that it is undoubtedly the democracy the form of government that best makes this phenomenon visible. This is so because, even with its limitations, democracy means that all or most of the citizens of a community can choose their representatives and have the right to do so.
Those who are part of the State in its multiple agencies and functions are mostly elected by the people and are due, ideally, to the reasons for which they have been placed in those posts.
