In the framework of the democratic societies of the West and other parts of the world, public mobilization has always been an important value as a means of struggle of the populations that are governed by a State and that protest in the face of adversity or demand the fulfillment of rights that are not insured. Public mobilization is an important action with which all society, social group and individual should be able to count when asserting their rights as a civil subject member of a community.
Public mobilization can be described as the action or the way that populations have to claim and protest against a certain fact in the public highway and making a show of force according to different capacities (some groups, causes or ideas convene much more than others). This means that it is one of the moments in which citizens take to the streets and activate a claim based on of discontent or fear, demanding that the leaders or other sectors of power reveal a certain actuate.
Public mobilization is a right within the forms of
government known as democracies and although it is often criticized in the media, the reality is that it is just as important as other forms of participation such as suffrage since it can be permanent and can easily mark the path of the decisions that a government makes regarding its community. While suffrage is a right that is limited only to election day, public mobilization can occur at different times and understand a much more enlightening and significant message than the results of the elections, even though they are also important. It is common for public mobilizations to be carried out by working and popular sectors since they are the ones who normally present claims before rights not fulfilled or insured, while other sectors with a better quality of life may show a certain fear or distrust in the face of the mobilization of this type. However, there has been history in many parts of the world, very important public mobilizations in which citizens of different strata social and economic groups have gathered around an idea of great value, in the face of violence, fear or corruption. It is here where the people have the power to twist the hand of governments that are not taking into account their needs and interests and therefore public mobilization should be given the same value as other ways to citizen participation.
