They represent the two largest and oldest political tendencies in the United States, which since the 19th century XIX and up to the present they have shared power, being the only ones that agreed to the management governmental.
The same country dominated by two conflicting political visions
Democrats adhere to the ideology of the Democratic Party, whose origin dates back to January 8, 1828, while the Republicans to the Republican Party, a little younger, born on March 20 of the year 1854.
They coincide only in the century they were born but ideologically hold opposing political positions: the Democrats are associated to progressivism and are located in the center left, and for their part, the Republicans, uphold an absolutely conservative ideology and right.
Although each one in their internal structures have divisions, more or less extreme with respect to the ideology that they adopted in their origins, their bases are respected by all.
The Democrats promote greater state intervention in economic life, something that the Republicans flatly reject, opting for the
liberalism staunchest who supports the free market, the reduction of state spending, and the minimum intervention of the state. The Democratic Party places the accent on the social responsability, and as a counterpart, the Republican, raises individual rights.
Military policy, one of the main flags of the Republicans
In military matters, they have also shown historical differences: when the Republicans governed, spending on this area and when they did, the Democrats went down, and even limited the incursions into various countries in conflict, as happened with Iraq.
Republican President George Bush Jr. declared war on the Iraqis after the violent Islamic attack on the World Trade Center in 2001, but when he was succeeded by Democrat Barack Obama, and in the face of popular outcry, he withdrew the US troops that were occupying the country Asian.
With respect to the rights of minorities, such as homosexuals, Republicans do not accept the marriage egalitarian and the democrats yes, they also raise opposition in support of abortion, being negative among the former and positive among the latter.
Universal health for all, the Democratic commitment
Health policy is also another point of absolute differentiation because the Democrats support universal health care that is managed and subsidized by the stadium, and on the contrary, for the Republicans, health should be private because it has proven to be more efficient.
Of the states that make up the United States, there are some that have historically stood out for their fidelity to each political space, Texas, for example, is Republican, and New York has a majority of democrats.
divided states
This situation was evidenced in the last presidential elections of 2016 in which the Democratic candidate, Hillary Clinton, swept New York, and not so the Republican Donald Trump who suffered a resounding defeat in said state.
On the other hand, both have had emblematic presidents, something that could not fail in a country with a system hyper presidentialist: Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, George Bush and Teddy Roosevelt (Republicans); Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Barack Obama, John Kennedy (Democrats).
A curiosity that is worth mentioning is that when both parties emerged they had an absolutely different look from the one attributed to them in the 20th century.
Republicans were considered progressives because their initial goal and origin had to do with the fight for the abolition of slavery, while the Democrats promoted issues more conservative.
