Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
He human being he has developed something very complex and abstract, perhaps difficult to define, which is the political system or what is established to govern a certain region. Throughout history, the different types of governments that human beings have been able to establish or develop have been almost infinite, and the goals what I wanted to achieve with them.
Autocracy and its etymology
The term autocracy comes, like most of the names with which it has been decided to designate the different forms of government, from the Greek. In this language, the term is made up of the prefix "auto" which means "oneself" and "kratos", which means "government". Thus, autocracy is the government of oneself, of a single person who has no one to compete with him or question his power. Rather, he concentrates in his person all the faculties, prerogatives and capacities to govern a certain people or society.
What are its most outstanding characteristics?
From what we have just pointed out, it is easy to understand that autocracy is a government that can have its negative elements. since it represents the absolute control of all things and phenomena that have to do with a community in the hands of only one person.
The autocrat also tends to develop traits of greater or lesser authoritarianism, partiality, personal interest or benefit, etc. In some historical cases, it has been the same peoples who have led figures of this type to govern a certain region so that it could end with the existing chaos, but this can easily become a problem if no one can control or limit the power that person is building with the time.
What forms of government can be autocratic?
If one thinks about the main definition of autocracy, it is not in itself a type of government but rather a practice of it that can occur in different forms of government.
In the time of the French Revolution, the autocracy began to identify itself with the monarchy, especially with the French, also known as absolute monarchy. But currently, the democracy that exists in many countries of the world can present signs of autocracy when the presidents or heads of the executive branch they act as if they were the only ones who govern and that therefore they have in their hands all the power to make certain decisions. decisions
Autocracy is never good in terms of legality, although it may be necessary in situations of disorder, chaos, or civil war.
