Importance of the Golden Rule
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
In every society there are norms known to all and which are considered basic and fundamental. We all know that you shouldn't tell lies, that you shouldn't steal and that without effort and determination you can't achieve any goal. This type of beginning or axioms function as general rules that can be applied to all kinds of circumstances and times. In popular language it is said that these criteria or principles are "golden rules".
If they are not met, problems of all kinds are generated.
The origin of the expression is found in the Bible
Many of the cultural references that we handle on a daily basis originate from the Holy Scriptures. Thus, in the Sermon on the Mount included in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus conveyed a message to all humanity: we must treat others as we want to be treated.
This proposal was later classified as the golden rule of Christian ethics. If this maxim is fulfilled, conflicts are avoided and understanding between human beings is favored.
It is not an exclusively Christian message, but is valid for any type of belief or conviction, whether religious or ethical.
In other words, it is a universal principle that we should all take into account and that is perfectly compatible with any doctrine or ideology.
In every context there is some golden rule
– In the economic sphere there are some unquestionable principles, such as the idea that you cannot spend more than you have or that you have to save part of your earnings.
- In the investigation history, every analyst knows that it is necessary to consult the original sources and that personal prejudices should not interfere in the analysis of the data.
– In any company that is dedicated to the sale of a product, one must not forget the importance of a good attention to the client.
– In the field of policy, all public officials should work for the common good.
– If someone wants to learn a foreign language, he cannot forget that he can only learn it by studying, with effort and dedication.
– These examples illustrate a common idea: without respecting the golden rules, an anomaly occurs.
an incorrect interpretation
If a person considers that in his house it is necessary to do what he commands or that his political opinions are the only valid ones and he considers such criteria to be a rule of thumb, he is making a mistake in interpretation.
Subjective or interested opinions should not be confused with any golden rule, since they are only valid for one and not for all.
