Importance of Myths

All ancient civilizations have their own stories about their origins and beliefs. The set of these stories of each people is what we call myths. The study and its understanding is done in mythology. We are talking about anonymous stories that belong to the tradition of a people. In this way, a myth would be a narration concrete that explains a part of reality; It can be a natural phenomenon like rain, weather or even a human feeling like love or revenge.
The myth became a way of explaining what surrounds us, since the human being he has always had the need to know and understand what is happening around him. Those stories had the gods as protagonists, the authentic referents of good and evil. There were also other characters, mainly the heroes, as well as imaginary animals such as the unicorn or the pegasus.
Researchers of the ancient world basically agree with the idea that myths like narratives began to weaken when human reason and incipient science gave their first Steps. It was logical that this should happen, since the regularity of the
natural phenomena it could not be the consequence of the whim or the participation of one god or another. The idea of transition between myth and reason shows that mythology no longer served as a rational discourse. This logical weakness of the myth did not mean its disappearance; in reality it became part of universal culture, a kind of legacy of humanity, a historical reference to better understand ourselves. The myth is still alive in the present, it is part of the tradition of each people. And we appreciate its validity from the moment in which the cinema and the literature they keep revising those old stories; with new versions but faithful to his message.
The term myth does not refer only to the ancient world, to the Greek civilization, Roman, Norman or Persian. The word myth has another meaning when referring to a real individual, let's take the example of a sports star, who becomes a symbol and becomes part of all of humanity. If we look closely, the two meanings of myth (remote history or symbol) have something in common: the need to understand the world beyond the present. The myth may be remote but it is not old, it is still alive, beating among us. That is its true magic.
