Importance of Dignified Life
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
An objective of all, perhaps the most difficult.- All human existence -and if we go further, all existence of any living being- implies the right to have and be able to enjoy a dignified life. Dignity is something intangible and very abstract, perhaps a concept that is also subject to many different definitions. This makes it difficult to explain or put into words, but at the same time it is something simple and can be very concrete.
The dignified life is important because it supposes that the person carries out an existence in which his rights are recognized and his presence in this world is valued, from the affective aspect but also from what he can achieve at work or professional level, creative, artistic, as a legacy that he can leave to the rest of the Humanity. We all seek in some way or another to get closer to a life as dignified as possible; it's hard to do, especially nowadays.
Dignified life as a symbol of civilization. Is completely true?
The discussion regarding a dignified life revolves around the fact that it is usually believed that current societies, modern and civilized (all highly subjective categories) provide the highest level of dignity known in the
History of Humanity.Although this is true to a large extent, due to the enormous technological advances, in terms of improving the services and of urban spaces, of the recognition of some elementary rights, the reality that surrounds us tells us that even today with all In these improvements we find people who live below the line of poverty and indigence, and what is worse is that nobody seems to care. This situation, typical of capitalist and highly individualistic societies, is the reflection of an enormous contradiction that underlies the ideals of equality, democracy and freedom.
Elements that directly influence the quality of life of a person
The elements that make a person's life dignified are many and the importance that they have depends on the ideological position that one has, although it should not be so. While for some the rights to liberty, security and property are essential and almost unique, others maintain that the right to health, education and housing come first.
There are also the rights to environment health, identity and nationality. We could easily say that all together, added to many other rights, are the ones that contribute equally to the dignity of a person, whoever they are, whatever their ethnicity, origin, gender, age either religion.
