Example of Sinéqdoche OR Synecdoche

It has been called synecdoche or syneqdoque to a literary figure that consists in that a phrase or word designates the total of the idea, according to some linguists, the synecdoque uses a part of something to refer to the whole.

Example: Your heart = To your feeling or affection

Five different uses can be highlighted of the synecdoche:

1. When a part is used by the whole
2. When the whole is used instead of a part
3. When using a genus instead of the species
4. When the species is used instead of the genus
5. When the material with which it is made is used to refer to the thing.

Example of synecdoche or syneqdoche:

Example1, when a part is used by the whole:

Example 2, when the whole is used instead of a part:

Example 4, when the species is used instead of the genus:

Example 5, When the material with which it is made is used to refer to the thing.
