Example of Epistolary Texts

They are cataloged as epistolary texts to texts whose purpose is to send a written message to one or more recipients who are not in the place or are in distant places.

Elements in the structure of an epistolary text:

Header:

Here the place and date are set, but in the emails the data is placed in the corresponding boxes.

1.- Date.- This is on the upper right side and is a very important piece of information, especially in formal documents and business letters.

2.- Greeting.- This can change according to the type of text that is being applied, becoming personal, familiar or very formal, where different formulas are applied:

• Very mr.
• His Excellency Mr.
• Most Illustrious Mr.
• Distinguished Mrs. etc.
• Estimated
• Estimated
• Dear
• Dear

3.-Introduction.- This is usually optional and inclines the receiver to receive the information in the most pleasant or satisfactory way possible.

4.- Body.- It is the substance of the message expressed.

5.- Farewell.- Here some courtesy formulas are used that are directed by the respect or trust that one has.

6.-Postscript.- (P.D.) or post scriptum (P.S.). It is put in the lower left margin and it is a clarification that could be necessary or forgotten.

Although there are also the modifications and requirements of the telegrams that must be reduced and concise, the Emails that may be in plain or more elaborate formats, and faxes that are formatted simple.

Mexico, February 17, 2013

Dear Mama:

For a long time I have felt the need to greet you and at the same time give an explanation to the whole family, I have finally decided to overcome my fears and face the consequences of my actions. It may seem illogical to you because for everyone I was dead, but it is not like that, I am fine and that is why I have decided to write to you so that you do not cry for me anymore. I knew that you had been informed of my death on the bank of a river, despite being aware I continued on my way and did not give any importance to those rumors. My friend Bernardo did not tell them anything about me out of fear... I want you to know that very soon I will return home and explain how things happened, I hope you can still receive me in your fall and that you love me again to have confidence as before. Do not tell anyone about my return, I hope that one day everyone can forgive me... I love you mother.
