For many years, people had realized that certain physical characteristics of plants, animals, and humans were the same in parents and children. The first humans noticed that some things were the same and some things were different between members of one generation and the next. Despite this, the understanding of the biological principles that explain the similarities and differences between generations was achieved very recently. The first good explanation emerged just over 100 years ago. However, most of the knowledge we have about how living things transmit certain characteristics to their children has been discovered since 1900.
In living things, researchers have found thousands of characteristics that are inherited, that is, they are transmitted from parents to children. A characteristic that a living being can transmit to its progeny is a hereditary characteristic. humans, eye color, hair color, face and body shapes can all be passed down from parents to children. The transmission of characteristics from parents to children is heredity. The branch of biology that studies heredity is genetics / Many of the great scientific discoveries of this century have been in the field of genetics. Today, genetics is one of the most active areas of scientific research.
