Teams combine all the qualities necessary for good management. There is no suitable, perfect person who meets all the necessary characteristics, as there are certain shocks; he must be smart and not too smart; he must be energetic and sensitive to people's feelings; must be dynamic and be patient; you must communicate fluently and listen carefully; You must be a thoughtful and decision maker. Therefore, it is the team, the instrument for sustained and lasting success in management. We must pay much more attention to teams, their selection, development and training; and above all to their psychology, motivation, composition and behavior.
Dr. Belbin identifies eight types of equipment, locked into two orientations:
Outward-facing: Appear dominant on psychometric tests
Director (C.H.): Chairs the team and coordinates its efforts to meet external objectives, clearly sees that team member is strong or weak in every area of the team's role, and assigns people to what they do best. He is a good communicator and knows how to listen.
Plant or creative (P.L.): It is the source of original ideas, suggestions and proposals from the team. Important issues and fundamentals are much more important to him than details.
Researcher (R.I.): Stimulates ideas and promotes innovation through this activity. His role is the most important to prevent the team from stagnating and losing touch with reality.
Structuring (S.H.): Quickly poses and responds to challenges. It shapes the application of efforts. He is always looking for a structure in the discussions and trying to unite ideas, objectives and practical considerations in a single feasible project, which tries to drive towards the decision and the action..
Oriented to the interior
Company Worker (C.W.): It is the practical organizer. It turns decisions and strategies into definite, manageable tasks that people can actually undertake.
Evaluator (M.E.): It is the one who prevents the team from committing to carry out a project in the wrong direction. It is the objective mind.
Team worker (T.W.): He is the most aware of the needs and concerns of each one. He is the internal communicator.
Finisher (C.F.): He worries that he may fail. He maintains a permanent sense of urgency that he communicates to others to propel them toward activity.
The absence of one of the roles weakens any team, but equally the presence of too many people of one type produces predictable types of failure. Individuals have secondary team roles and can duplicate when necessary and fulfill two of the roles instead of just one. The construction of balanced teams depends on the type of operation in question, they do not have the same requirements.
