To the measurement pattern it is also called a unit of measure. The measurement standard is a conventional measurement, that is, a measurement that is established in accordance with an agreement or agreement, in order to establish a measurement system that can be of generalized application and valid anywhere (unlike local measurement systems in which there is no measurement standard or standard).
Currently there are two systems of means in general use, the English system (also called the Imperial System) and the metric system.
Each of these systems establishes a series of fundamental units to measure the different physical quantities, such as length, mass, speed and time, among others.
The decimal metric system uses, among others, the meter, to measure length, the gram, to measure mass, and the second to measure time. The English system uses the inch, the pound, and the second to make the same measurements.
The determination of a measurement standard is based on the agreement taken to establish it as a basis of measurements, generally established by an international body and adopted by the states members.
Examples of Measurement Pattern:
- The meter was established by the General Office of Weights and Measures based in Paris, France, in 1795, and is the measure equivalent to 1/10000000 (One ten millionth) of the distance between the North Pole and the Ecuador. The standard meter is the length of a bar made of platinum and iridium alloy at 4 ° C, found at the Office of Weights and Measures in France.
- The yard was established during the 13th century as an official measure in England. It was decreed by King Henry I, establishing as a standard the distance between the tip of his nose and the tip of his fingers. Its equivalence is 91.44 cm.
