The Concept Of Leadership
Human Resources / / July 04, 2021
Leadership is the influence, art, or process of influencing people to strive willingly and enthusiastically to achieve the goals of the group.
It is born from the personal characteristics that distinguish a person from the other members of the group, thus making him a leader; A leader is the person who has a halo or charisma that makes others invest him with authority to lead them towards the goals set.
Leaders are not nominated, selected or elected by organizations, but are accepted and followed by their subordinates.
John Locke affirms that freedom is a natural condition for man to order his actions and dispose of his own person and property, without asking permission or depending on others.
While Nicholas Machiavelli, in his famous work "The Prince", affirms that first of all it is convenient to be feared and then loved. Adding that man in general is ungrateful and fickle, that he always flees from danger and that his main motive is profit.
Here are two points of view that differ substantially in the study of the human condition.
One (Lucke) hints that the human being does not need the command of a leader to conduct himself and that he can do anything well if he is set free.
Another (Machiavelli) suggests that man, given his scarcity of values to conduct himself with probity, requires effective leadership that makes up for his limitations.
Consequently, what would be the qualities that should be required of a leader? The intelligence to decide the different problems that are put to the consideration of the group; the political sensitivity to weigh opinions and channel concerns toward common goals of the group; ability to make decisions; charisma to integrate different characters around him; maturity so as not to put personal interests before the interests of the group; flexibility to recognize own mistakes and appreciate qualities among group members; tolerance for the sake of group harmony; eminence, a quality that allows you to stand out from others, apart from other characteristics not because less important subjective factors, such as probity, punctuality, security or self-confidence, neatness, etc.
