The type of thinking that breaks the problem down into smaller parts is called analytical thinking, and it works because it is easier to solve a problem by breaking it down into smaller parts; This thinking applies the principle of "divide and conquer."

Problem: Finding a short circuit in the electrical wiring of a two-story house.

The analytical thinking to follow can be:

Remove electrical power from the entire house.

Put the electricity on the ground floor. If the short circuit occurs there then look at that floor, otherwise the short circuit is upstairs.

Once the floor where the damage is located, turn off the lights and disconnect the electrical equipment from all the rooms on that floor.

Go turning on the light and connecting the electrical appliances in each of the rooms until you find the room with the problem.
