Miguel Gregorio Antonio Ignacio Hidalgo Gallaga, better known as Miguel hidalgo y Costilla He was born on the farm of Corralejo in the current town of Pénjamo Guanajuato on May 8, 1753 and was shot on June 30, 1811 in Chihuahua Chihuahua. He was born in 1753 in Pénjamo Actual Guanajuato on May 8, he was the son of Cristóbal Hidalgo y Costilla Y Ana Maria Gallaga, he was the second of four children.
His father was the administrator of the Corralejo farm (where Miguel Hidalgo was born) and his mother was a housewife.
He was a Creole and this allowed him to attend the school of San Nicolas Obismo, where he studied together with his brother, here he universalized his studies, learning Latin, French and philosophy.
He was finally appointed a priest in the year 1803 in Mexico City and after a few years he saw involved in the riots and conspiracies for the King of Spain Ferdinand VII to rule the new Spain.
Miguel hidalgo was in charge of summoning the population to form the uprising in arms, since the initial plan was that Fernando VII will govern all the territories of New Spain and as a second objective to become independent in case they are not achieved. This independence idealism arose from the inspiration of the 13 colonies and their independence that formed what is now the United States.
Thus, Miguel Hidalgo summoned the population on September 16, 1810, to start the armed revolution, where the call was given pain scream, in Guanajuato and that today is called Dolores Hidalgo.
After being part of the conspiracy of Queretaro, he took up arms distinguishing himself by having taken the banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe as a flag, making all the faithful join its ranks armed.
At one point he requested the union of his student and friend Don José María Morelos y Pavón, who entered the armed struggle and was one of the greatest generals of the insurgent army.
Miguel Hidalgo was arrested in Alta California along with Mariano Abasolo and Ignacio Allende, the first two being executed.
Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla was tried on two occasions, the first was by the Holy Inquisition where he was sentenced and the second was in Chihuahua Chihuahua by a court martial and was sentenced to death.
He was executed, shot and beheaded, hanging his head in the Granada alhóndiga in Guanajuato and his body buried in the temple of San Francisco de Asís inside the Chapel of San Antonio.
Later his remains were exhumed and taken to the cathedral of Mexico City, being placed in the altar of the kings for the year of 1925 the remains of him were moved in the monument of the Angel of the Independence.
