The cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, S.I., Archbishop of Buenos Aires (Argentina), Ordinary for the Faith of the Roman Rite of the residents in Argentina and devoid of the Ordinary of the same rite, he was born in Buenos Aires on December 17, 1936.
He studied and made a diploma as a Chemical Technician and later chose to follow the path of the priesthood, so he entered the Villa Devoto seminary. On March 11, 1958 he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus, conducting humanistic studies in Chile.

From 1967 to 1970 he studied Theology at the Faculty of Theology of the Colegio "San José", in San Miguel, where he finished that degree and finally on December 13, 1969 he was ordained a priest at the age of 33 years.
Between the year 1970 and 1971, Jorge Mario Bergoglio he passed the third probation in Alcalá de Henares (Spain) and on April 22 he made his perpetual profession.
He was master of novices at Villa Barilari, in San Miguel from 1972 to 1973, professor at the Faculty of Theology, Consultor of the Province and Rector of Colegio Massimo.
On July 31, 1973 he was elected Provincial of Argentina, remaining in office for 6 years.
Between 1980 and 1986, Francisco I was rector of the Colegio Massimo and of the Faculty of Philosophy and Theology of the same house and pastor of the parish of Patriarch San José, in the diocese of San Miguel.
In March 1986, Jorge Mario Bergoglio he moved to Germany where he completed his doctoral thesis, later he was assigned to the college of El Salvador and later to the church of the Society of Jesus, in the city of Córdoba, as spiritual director and confessor.
On May 20, 1992, John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Auca and auxiliary of Buenos Aires.
On June 27, 1992 in the Cathedral of Buenos Aires he received the episcopal order of Cardinal Antonio Quarracino, the Apostolic Nuncio Monsignor Ubaldo Calabresi and the Bishop of Mercedes-Luján, Monsignor Emilio Ognenovich.
On June 13, 1997, he was appointed co-auditing archbishop of Buenos Aires and archbishop of Buenos Aires, following his death to Caardinal Quarraciino on February 28, 1998.
In the year 2001 Jorge Mario Bergoglio he was named Cardinal, he is a member of the Pontifical Council for the Family and of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America.

He has written several books, such as meditations for religious or reflections of hope and on March 13, 2013 At 76 years of age he has become the first pope from America, taking by name that of Francisco.
