Letters of condolences as well as obituaries serve a dual purpose. The first, to show our condolences and sorrow at the death of the person and solidarity. The second is to comply with a social and moral formality before those who have lost their loved one.
This letter is addressed to the relatives or friends closest to the deceased, who thus receive their condolences and, in the event of not attending the funeral, an obligatory apology. It can be written in two ways:
- Formal
- Informal
The formal letter of condolences is made upon the death of an official, authority or person with social recognition, while the Informal sympathy letter is of a more private and perhaps more trusting nature, such as with close friends or even relatives.
It should be noted that these types of letters are usually very brief or concise and cover a maximum of one sheet of paper.
