Introduction
Knowing the effect that capuchin monkeys have produced in some patients, life has been changed of some patients, both due to the care carried out by the monkeys, as well as the effect produced towards the sick.
Trying to emulate this circumstance, the training of a medium breed dog was started, to to provide basic care in a patient with paraplegic paralysis of the lower section, (legs).
The patient does not have the ability to pick up items, and move medium-weight things to specific places as well as open and close doors.
Training
The canine that began training by reducing his anxiety by placing him in the street, and accustoming him through commands to stay calm; when he became anxious, he was given a warning (punishment), throwing a jet of water at him, without realizing the direction.
After a week, the animal no longer looked for problems with the other animals and controlled the fear of motorists.
Starting the training, the dog was asked to bring objects such as backpacks, newspaper, and milk jars to the place assigned for it.
Upon completing an action, he was rewarded with a prize that gave him special pleasure, such as a piece of bacon gradually reducing the rewards, making them perform the activities through orders.
The dog was asked to open a door, and within a day, he mastered the task, receiving a reward upon accomplishment.
The dog has responded in an acceptable way to the care of the patient, and has developed a special sensitivity to the needs of the patient.
In a period of six months, a total of 225 different tasks were entered, which could have a positive service for the patient.
After a period of 30 days after the dog entered the patient's life, only reported a small incident when not knowing the visitors who arrived at the department of the sick.
The coexistence of the patient with the dog has been quite good, becoming a company.
