The Seven Wonders of the Modern World They are the series of Buildings and Monuments that represent architectural and sculptural excellence. Each one has a highly significant motive, be it religious, ceremonial or sentimental, which adds additional value.
These Seven Wonders were selected through an online survey, whose Results were revealed on July 7, 2007. The polling company was the “New Open World Corporation”, and the initiative came from the Swiss Bernard Weber, who was inspired by the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.
Is about Chichen Itza, the Christ redeemer, Macchu Picchu, the Roman Coliseum, Petra, the China wall and the Taj Mahal.
Geographical location of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World
The Seven Wonders of the Modern World are spread over four Continents: America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
On America they find each other Chichen Itza, in Yucatán, Mexico; the Christ redeemer, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Y Macchu Picchu, in Cuzco, Peru.
On Europe is the Roman Coliseum, in Rome, Italy.
On Africa it's found Petra, east of the Arava Valley, to the Dead Sea in Jordan.
On Asia is the China wall, along the territory between the northern and northeastern border of China. The Taj Mahal, located in Agra, India.
Chichen Itza
Chichen Itzá is one of the main archaeological sites of the Yucatán Peninsula, in Mexico, located in the municipality of Tinum, in the state of Yucatán. Important and renowned vestige of the Mayan civilization. The main buildings that remain there correspond to the period called the Late Classic or Early Postclassic, from 800 to 1100 after Christ.
Christ redeemer
The Christ the Redeemer or Christ of Corcovado is a 30-meter statue, with an 8-meter pedestal, of Jesus of Nazareth with open arms showing the city of Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil.
It is located 710 meters above sea level in the Tijuca National Park, on top of the Corcovado hill. It was inaugurated on October 12, 1931, after approximately five years of construction.
Macchu Picchu
Machu Picchu is the contemporary name given to an Inca llaqta (ancient Andean town) built before the 15th century on the rocky promontory that joins the mountains Machu Picchu and Iluayna Picchu on the eastern slope of the Central mountain range, in southern Peru and at 2490 meters above sea level, altitude of its square principal. Its original name would have been Llaqtapata.
Roman Coliseum
The Roman Colosseum is an amphitheater from the time of the Roman Empire, built in the 1st century AD and located in the center of the city of Rome. Originally it was named Flavian Amphitheater (Amphiteatrum Flavium), in honor of the Flavian Dynasty of emperors who built, and was renamed the Colosseum after a nearby large statue, the Colossus of Nero, which did not remain standing until the present.
Petra
The city of Petra is an important archaeological site in Jordan, and the capital of the ancient Nabatean kingdom. The name of Petra comes from the Greek "pétra", which means stone, and her name is perfectly representative. It is not a city built with stone, but as it is, excavated and sculpted in the stone that is naturally found on the site.
The city of Petra, more than an architectural work developed from the ground, was a sculptural work on the huge rock.
Chinese wall
The Great Wall of China is an ancient Chinese fortification built and rebuilt between the 5th century BC and the 16th century (Modern Age) to protect the northern border of the Chinese empire during successive imperial dynasties from attacks by the Xiongnu nomads of Mongolia and Manchuria.
Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is a complex of buildings built between 1631 and 1648 in the city of Agra, state of Uttar Pradesh (India), on the banks of the Yamuna River, by the Muslim emperor Shah Jahan of the dynasty Mughal.
The imposing ensemble was erected in honor of his favorite wife, Arjumand Bano Begum, better known as Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth of her fourteenth daughter. It is estimated that its construction required the effort of about 20,000 workers.
