In the international context there are many organisms supranational and in most cases have a common purpose: to create strategic alliances between nations in order to defend the interests of a region. This is precisely what happens with the initials ALBA-TCP, which correspond to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America- Treaty of Commerce of the Peoples. At present, this platform of nations is made up of eleven members: Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Dominica, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and Granada
Main challenges
ALBA-TCP began its journey in 2008, specifically at the first summit held in the city of Caracas
Since then and periodically, the countries that comprise it have met to address various issues: cooperation programs on food, safety and national sovereignty, proposals to end the blockade of Cuba, development of trade, climate change, colonial situation of the Falkland Islands, the creation of a drug distribution company, the creation of the
Bank del Alba or the analysis of social movements.ALBA-TCP is a common front that tries to face a series of geopolitical challenges. Therefore, it is not a matter of establishing merely economic ties but rather of consolidating a geographical space of cooperation.
The historical dimension of ALBA-TCP
Although this platform of countries is of recent creation, it must be taken into account that its birth has historical roots. On the one hand, the ideals of Simón Bolívar defended the creation of a twinned Latin America. In this sense, it can be affirmed that the Bolivarian dream is present in ALBA-TCP. On the other hand, in the history of Latin America there has been a tension politics with the United States and this has created the need to meet the call "imperialism American "and to neocolonialism.
ALBA-TCP is not exempt from criticism
First, he is accused of Bolivarian populism. Second, some sectors disapprove of his anti-American discourse. On the other hand, some consider that it is an artificial platform and that it is not justified, since there are already Latin American organizations oriented towards cooperation (such as the OAS or ECLAC).
