The Solutions o Solutions are Homogeneous mixtures of two or more components. They can be in solid, liquid and gaseous state. The components of the solution are called Solvent or Solvent, and Solute. The Solvent is the one found in the highest proportion in the mixture, which is why the physical state of the Solution is attributed to it.
And the solute is the component in the smallest proportion. It is generally the active ingredient in the Solution. Depending on the amount of Solute that is added, the solution will be Diluted for the smallest, Concentrated for a medium amount, or Saturated. for when the limit of what the solvent can retain has been reached without the solute beginning to be visually noticeable or beginning to deposit.
The Solvent allows the Solute to be well distributed throughout the solution, thus giving uniform properties to the solution. Between solute and solvent they are able to make the solution work for Analysis purposes Volumetric at laboratory level, or for domestic matters, industrial preparations and building.
Solute-Solvent Combinations
As mentioned, solutions can be of the three physical states of matter, depending on the combination that is made of the solute and the solvent. All the possible permutations of these combinations are listed below, based on the solid, liquid, and gaseous physical states.
1.- Solute Gas in Solvent Gas
2.- Liquid Solute in Gas Solvent
3.- Solid Solute in Gas Solvent
4.- Solute Gas in Liquid Solvent
5.- Liquid Solute in Liquid Solvent
6.- Solid Solute in Liquid Solvent
7.- Solute Gas in Solid Solvent
8.- Liquid Solute in Solid Solvent
9.- Solid Solute in Solid Solvent
Of these nine types of Solutions, the most common combinations of Solute and Solvent are those that involve liquid Solvent.
All Gases mix with each other in all proportions, and give solutions whose properties almost represent the summed properties of these if the pressure to which they are subjected is not so great.
Vaporization of a liquid and sublimation of a solid in a gaseous phase can be considered as a solution of those substances in a gas.
Gas Solutes and Liquid Solutes dissolve in solids to form apparently homogeneous solutions.
When two solids dissolve in each other, the solutions formed can be completely or partially miscible, depending on the nature of the substances and the temperature.
If Solute and Solvent have similar chemical nature, it is much easier for them to mix with each other.
