When we think of the idea of a Article We generally associate it with the written press. However, a scientific article has very different peculiarities from the ordinary article.
We understand by scientific article a work of investigation which is published in a specialized journal and which aims to communicate rigorous information on a subject of study.
General structure of a scientific article
The scientific community often uses the following scheme o structure to elaborate a scientific article: initial page, a summary or abstract, a introduction on the subject, an explanation of the method and the material used, the results obtained, a discussion and, finally, the conclusions.
On the other hand, it is usual to incorporate additional information: the authorship of the article, bibliography used, informative tables and graphs, possible funding and acknowledgments.
Considerations of interest
The Format general of a scientific article is indicated in the previous section. However, it is relevant to remember a series of aspects of each of the sections.
- The abstract is a description abbreviated article and is the section that invites the reader to continue reading. In general, the abstract is between 250 and 300 words long.
- It is usual that the article's keywords appear in the article index, for which the uses the references of the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings), the vocabulary accepted by the community scientific
- In the introduction of the article, the background of the study, the focus of the matter and its scientific relevance must be indicated. In other words, explain why the research presented in the article was done.
- In the materials and methods section, it is necessary to explain how the research was carried out, that is, with what means and what was the methodology employee. And it is also necessary to indicate where the research was carried out (for example, in a specific hospital), at what time and when design of the study (especially the methodology used).
- Regarding the results of the article, it is necessary to offer precise and clear data with a structure logic and without incorporating any personal or subjective assessment.
- In the discussion section, the data obtained in the articles are related to similar works by other researchers.
- In the conclusions of the scientific article, reference must be made to the implications of the study, that is, its relevance to science.
- Finally, the bibliographic references included must respect a generalized procedure accepted by the scientific community.
