When we observe fireworks we are in front of a pyrotechnic show. As for the term, it comes from the Greek and is formed by the prefix pyros, which means fire and by techné, which means technique. It should be noted that there are several words that incorporate the word pyro or are related to it, such as arsonist, pyre, pyromancy or pyrolatry.
The art of fireworks
The use of fireworks as a festive element is ancient and it was in ancient China where it began to be practiced in some celebrations and religious ceremonies. The appeal of these celebrations was based on the games of forms that called the attention in the dark sky, but also in the smell of gunpowder, the loud noise and vibrations. Likewise, we must not forget that fire has had a magical component and has been considered as a powerful element (remember the myth of Prometheus from Greek culture or the sacred fire mentioned in the Old Will).
Pyrotechnic masters use a number of basic raw materials, especially gunpowder, potassium chlorate, lithium chloride, and calcium chloride. The
driving of these substances requires a large skill and take a whole series of measures of safety to avoid possible accidents caused by explosions.Fireworks in the world
Some of the most prestigious fireworks in the world will be held in Brazil, Mexico, Spain and Canada. In the carnivals of Rio de Janeiro, pyrotechnics are part of the color of the party. Mexicans are very fond of fireworks, which in Mexico are called castles or bulls.
In the case of Spain, it is in the city of Valencia where pyrotechnics makes the most sense, since in the celebration of the fallas Valencian many activities resort to pyrotechnic masters to launch firecrackers, which in Valencia are known as fireworks. In the Canadian city of Vancouver, the famous "Celebration of Light" takes place every year, a fireworks contest that brings together the best specialists on the planet in this type of fireworks shows.
criticism of pyrotechnics
Although fireworks and firecrackers have a playful and festive intention, they cause a series of risks and problems: accidents that can become serious, complaints about excessive noise and a danger for some animals. Some associations in favor of animals emphasize the negative effects of firecrackers on the Health of pets, especially dogs. It must be taken into account that the noise of the firecrackers causes fear in some dogs that, scared and disoriented, can run away desperately and get lost.
