The term compelled is a qualifying adjective that is normally used to designate those people who have been forced for reasons of force older to act or behave in such a way, perhaps against their own Will. Whenever someone speaks of someone who acts compelled or the act of compelling another person, an implicit reference is made to a need since the obligation Acting in such a way is not fortuitous or accidental but has to do with meeting a goal or achieving a certain result. The term is very commonly used, for example, in work environments in which there are permanent demands and needs to be resolved.
The term compel is not entirely common in everyday use of the language Castilian and Spanish since it always implies a certain level of seriousness or formality in the acts in which the situation unfolds. However, this does not mean that it cannot be used in spontaneous or freer situations.
The idea of compelling or of an individual being compelled to act in a certain way leads us to
think that there is always an external force that exerts this obligation on the individual and therefore he has no other option than to act or behave as he does. External force can also come from within a person (for example when the conscience dictates how to act to one) but it is understood as something different of subject as it forces him against his will. The term is very common in work spaces in which people must meet certain objectives or results and are then compelled or forced to perform certain tasks. At the same time, it is also a term in common use in the language judicial when it seeks to refer to the idea that someone was forced to commit an act that can be understood as a crime, then it serves as a mitigating factor.
