The concept of victim is used extensively in our language to refer to that person who has result injured as a result of having suffered an accident or by the direct and intentional attack of a third, collided with his car or received a gunshot wound in an assault, respectively.
It is a common practice that all people who are the subject of some type of crime, assault, kidnapping, rape, among others, they are called victims, regardless of whether they have escaped unharmed, that is, they have not suffered any physical attack, not even a scratch.
For the Justice and the authorities that deal with investigation of the case, they are victims and then they will be treated with all the considerations that the case deserves, such as: receiving care medical, psychological, and of course that those who correspond are in charge of finding and apprehending the guilty of the act that hurt.

The term is also used to refer to a person who has died as a result of some of the aforementioned events or of many other possible ones.
So, we will talk about the victim, when someone suffered an injury, a damage, a loss and also when that someone died. My cousin was one of the victims of the fire in the building but she's fine now. The assault on the bakery left as a balance three fatalities.
In any case, always, especially, when this type of situation is reported through the media. communication, it is clarified if the victim was only injured or if in her defect she died and that is why it is often clarified by talking about fatal victims.
And we can also find other recurring uses of the word, more informal and symbolic and that occur in the languagecolloquial, to refer: to that person who as a result of his or her lack of foresight responsibility or that of others suffers some setback; and the individual who usually becomes a martyr, without being it, is also said to be a victim before others.
