Is expression Latin means verbatim "way of the cross" and presents a double spelling, since Via Crucis or Viacrucis is written indistinctly. This denomination serves to mention a devout practice that consists of remembering the different episodes of the Passion of Christ.
The fourteen episodes of the Passion are known as the Stations of the Cross and are usually represented in the Christian churches with crosses, pictures and reliefs that serve to narrate each of the scenes of the Passion. This devotion began to be practiced in Jerusalem, in the same place where Jesus went on his way towards Calvary (in that city there is a street known as the Via Dolorosa and it is 400 meters long, the distance traveled by Jesus until reaching his crucifixion).
In the Christian tradition the Via Crucis is remembered on Good Friday
The Way of the Cross, the Stations of the Cross or the Via Dolorosa are different names that recall the final episodes in the life of Jesus Christ. In any case, it is about fourteen moments or episodes:
1) Jesus appeared before Pontius Pilate and was condemned to death,
2) Pilate handed Jesus over to the Roman soldiers to take him to Calvary,
3) in this episode Jesus fell to the I usually by the weight of the cross,
4) Jesus met his mother,
5) was helped by a Cyrenean who took pity on him,
6) a godly woman named Veronica wiped her face,
7) at this station he fell for the second time,
8) Jesus comforts some women who cry,
9) he falls the third time and the soldiers beat him,
10) is stripped of his garments,
11) the soldiers nailed Jesus to the cross and
12) die on the cross.
After the Stations of the Cross, his disciples lowered his body from the cross, then he was buried in a tomb and on the third day he rose again.
For a Christian the memory of the Via Crucis is made through prayer and serves to achieve a greater spiritual union with Jesus Christ. It is, on the other hand, a very special moment in Holy Week.
