Person who has received training in the humanities
The concept of humanist is used in our language with several senses, one of them is to refer to the person who has received training in humanities. Humanities is precisely called that branch of knowledge that make up subjects such as history, literature, languages, art and all those others that do not have a app immediate practice. "Juan has leaned toward a career in the humanities."
He who is a supporter of the movement known as Humanism
And the other of the extended uses of the word allows to designate that individual who is in favor of the movement known as Humanism. Likewise, everything related to it can be referred to in a general way with this concept.
Movement inspired by the Greco-Latin language and culture and that took man as its epicenter
Humanism knew how to be a movement with intellectual characteristics that developed in Europe, in the 15th century, in full Renaissance, and that had its inspiration in the Greco-Latin language and literature, while it took man, the human being, as its center and model.
In other words, Humanism proposed a revaluation and a return to Greco-Latin sources.
Meanwhile, this center in which man is placed, as a motor of the same, generates that this movement has been a proposal that exalts the human race. Thus, all the activities and actions carried out by man become relevant, such is the case of the arts, literature, culture, among others.
A movement that would not have existed without the Renaissance
We must emphasize that the birth of this movement in the midst of the Renaissance was by no means accidental, since that the proposals of the Renaissance, which had been born as a reaction against the stage immediately previous, Middle Ages, they perfectly agreed with what Humanism proposed. During the Middle Ages everything was oriented to God while the Renaissance brought the novelty that man was the center, and of course, Humanism expressed it.
Both the universe and the rest of the activities and disciplines revolve around the human being.
And it is not by chance either that the arts have developed magnificently during this time and with an incomparable artistic level.
In the intellectual plane is where Humanism put its focus the most. To train men, individuals, not social groups, in order to receive the education according to allow them to develop satisfactorily in the communities.
