The word apartheid has an African origin and it is precisely the word that was used to name the system of discrimination which was formally imposed in South Africa from the year 1948 by the white race against the black inhabitants. And it was called with this term because precisely in the language originating from where it was applied, Namibia and South Africa, it meant separation.
So apartheid was a politics segregationist whose main mission was separation, exclusion and estrangement from the black race. To complete such a system is that there were well differentiated spaces, in all levels and contexts, so that the black and white races do not interact. Each had its reserved place and of course, the blacks, who were the targets of the vilest discrimination, could not even come close to those places destined for the white race. Of course they were severely punished if they did. Buses, beaches, schools, hospitals, public squares were some of the many spaces that They had places for whites only and of course others more relegated to people of Colour.
To this was added the prohibition of voting for the black race and that of maintaining some type of love or sexual bond with the white race. And not to mention having any participation in politics, this was more than forbidden.
Now, there was a reason for imposing this rigid system, the population white was less in percentage with respect to black, so she did not want to lose her power in the least and authority in the hands of blacks.
It remains until 1992. Nelson Mandela a reference and activist against Apartheid
Apartheid remained unshakeable until 1992.
The most recognized exponent of the fight against this system was the South African Nelson Mandela, the South African political leader who fought tirelessly to end it. Boy, did he do it, as in 1994 he became the first black president of South Africa.
He was a character very loved by both his own and others and of course well recognized for his activism against discrimination.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize for the Peace in 1993 for his contribution to the peaceful end of apartheid and for contributing to the development of a more democratic system in his homeland
