The Old Testament is made up of a series of books. One of them is the Apocalypse and in chapter XVl of this book reference is made to a place called Armageddon. In this place a battle will take place and for this reason there is talk of the battle of Armageddon.
The enigmatic message
This episode is reflected between verses 12 and 16 of Revelation and in a language very enigmatic and mysterious Jesus Christ explains that an angel poured out his cup on the waters of the Euphrates River and later the Water the river dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the east. Then mention is made of a dragon, a false prophet and three evil spirits with appearance frog. Those evil spirits take over the kings of the earth who finally meet in a great battle with Almighty God. These are roughly the strange words of the Apocalypse regarding Armageddon. From this one text, all kinds of analyzes and interpretations have been elicited.
Different meanings of Armageddon
One of the debates is related to the word Armageddon. Although in the Apocalypse it is said that it is a specific place, experts do not agree in stating which place it is from the point of view geographical (there are specialists in biblical texts who claim that it could be the city of Megiddo and others argue that it could be the Mount Zion).
Seventh-day Adventists form a stream of Christianity that offers their own version of the battle of Armageddon. According to this current, Armageddon is not a real war between God and the kings of the world, but it is a spiritual war. Starting from this interpretation, Adventists understood that Japan's defeat in World War II was an unmistakable sign of the message biblical. In this way, the dragon and the false prophet of the Apocalypse would actually refer to paganism and any belief human being away from the message of the true God.
For Jehovah's Witnesses the battle of Armageddon is a prophecy that announces the end of the world and for this reason when World War I began they understood that the battle of Armageddon had arrived, the final war of God.
For some atheists and agnostics, Armageddon is related to millennialism, the idea that the world would come to an end in 1000 AD. Other opinions maintain that Armageddon is nothing more than an apocalyptic message and without any foundation.
