Chat is an English word that means chat, chat or converse. Given that the computing is a discipline universal, and that English is the prevailing language in the world in order to relate people from different regions to each other, the "art"of conversing through computers ended up being called" chatting. "
A chat (or cyber chat) through Internet or any other computer network can include more than two people: in general, the computer programs used for this purpose provide the possibility of communication group.
Chat supposes to write in a keyboard through written language and receive a response by another person who, from a distance, will be using the same method with identical or similar programs.
When Internet began to become popular, most used chat media it was the channels IRC: virtual and group chat rooms in which one person can send and receive messages to and from an entire group, although couple chats can also be established. Currently, although this type of chat is still very popular (using programs such as
mIRC, X-Chat, Konversation, Chatzilla, IRcap, etc.), it is customary to use "messengers"as provided by MSN, Yahoo! or Google Talk (proprietary software), Jabber (free software) or ICQ (proprietary and almost obsolete). Programs like Skype (proprietary software) or Ekiga (free software) whose functionality resides more in the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), they also have chat functionalities by text, even P2P programs like aMule Y eMule (free software) allow us to chat with people who are exchanging files at the moment. There are many web pages that offer WebChat in which the medium is -in general- IRC and its protocols, but we can access the service through any browser WEB, without the need to install other software.
A interesting feature of the chat via IRC is that it consumes very little bandwidth: in situations of saturated networks this type of communication is ideal, even when Cannot display web pages due to poor network connection, chats via IRC often continue to render service.
The video chat includes video and sometimes sound in chat communications, an example of this could be Skype, Ekiga, Paltalk or MSN. Computer networks, through chat, mail, and other communication, allow different social classes relate in a more egalitarian way.
