The word predominate we usually use it with several senses in our language.
On the one hand, when we want to express that something or someone prevails or stands out from the average or from the environment in which they have been inserted. Her Versace dress made her predominate at the party. It was undoubtedly the most elegant of the meeting.
On the other hand when something turns out to be important in numbers or abundant in other matters we also tend to express it in terms of dominating. Olives predominate in this dish, the truth is not to my liking.
So, usually, this word is used in various fields to account for the supremacy, the influence and the highlight that both someone and something present in a community, a society, a group, among others.
Thus, when in a given context it is appreciated that a certain issue, characteristic, is in command, it can clearly be spoken of a predominance. For example, in a group of friends, who have known each other from childhood
, the majority are already married, that is, there are 10 and only two remain single, for example, it can be said that married people predominate in the group.Another case similar to the one we mentioned is usually given in the sport, more precisely in football. In a town in which there are two soccer clubs that have competed enormously for decades, it is common to hear say that in it the fans of this or that predominate, according to the interest that present the interlocutor.
Likewise, in the same context of sport, the word predominate is used when it is wanted to express that such team, in the case of team sports, or such a player, have presented at the behest of a competition a supremacy in the game over their rival.
Although there are many synonyms that are usually applied in relation to this word, the most traditional ones are: prevail, stand out and stand out, which precisely allow us to express that advantage or difference that something or someone presents over the rest.
