A prodigy is a event unusual, something extraordinary and unexpected. The prodigy appears as a shocking phenomenon that causes the astonishment of those who witness it. It is a fact that does not leave anyone indifferent and it is something that is remembered over the years.
In the face of miracles, they speak of a prodigy because they do not have an explanation rational Y logic. They arise in a mysterious way, as something that disrupts normality and regularity. There is a interpretation very singular in miracles: the rational mind cannot explain them, but faith allows us to understand them.
We say that something is a wonder because it manifests itself differently than usual. Certain phenomena of nature (the Aurora Borealis, geysers or volcanoes) are classified as prodigies. All of them are rare in that they do not happen regularly.
The numerical idea is implicit in the wonder: if the number is small, it can be a wonder, and if it is high, it becomes normal.
The great inventions and advances of humanity have been considered prodigies. It happened in the case of aviation, the car or television, inventions that once seemed unimaginable. His appearance shocked society. There was a revolutionary component in them.
If someone has a remarkable ability the word prodigy is also used. There are prodigious athletes and artists. They are capable of doing things that are not available to most.
In the field of childhood The concept of child prodigy has been coined to refer to the special skills of a child that, due to his age, are inappropriate for him.
In the circus and the world of entertainment, the idea of prodigy is used as a publicity claim. In the old circuses strange characters acted: the bearded woman, the fish man or giant individuals. They were presented as prodigious beings, people with a strange rarity. There is a famous case and it is the true story of Joseph Merrick, the elephant man. His body and his features resembled an elephant and for this reason he suffered marginalization and social rejection. His story was brought to movie theater And just as he was seen as a prodigy of nature in the worst sense of the word, so was his struggle and his courage to overcome adversity.
