Force from safety militarized of a nation that fulfills functions of policeman in remote or unsafe areas
The gendarmerie is a militarized security force of a nation that performs functions like those of the police and that normally acts in remote populations or that require strict surveillance and control because they are dangerous areas where there is an abundance of crime.
This security force is very common in various parts of the world, for example in Argentina, Mexico, and they stand out for maintaining a military police structure.
The operation of the Argentine National Gendarmerie
In Argentina, the Argentine National Gendarmerie is one of the most important security forces and that differs from the rest by its military stamp.
Its functions are developed especially in the area of internal security and in some cases it can also offer support for as regards external security.
The fundamental mission of its creation in 1938 is not far from the original ones, to protect and monitor the most far from the nation, such is the case of borders and, of course, populations located in remote areas. Borders and some strategic sites are the areas controlled by the Argentine gendarmerie.
However, in recent years and as a consequence of the escalation of the unsafety in the country, the gendarmerie, was assigned the care of some areas, neighborhoods, localities, among others, in which the Crime grew fantastically and the police were not enough to cover the security needs of the neighbours.
French origin
The concept and the force itself have their origin in France where they used to be the surveillance body of small towns, gens d'armes is the expression French from which the word comes and which refers to armed people.
In times of Middle Ages, the feudal lord led these corps to war. Later, in the middle of the 15th century, they became companies that were the base of the armies. In these initiatory times, by force only individuals of the nobility could belong.
In this matter, times have certainly changed since today anyone who wants it and has a vocation to serve can integrate this force.
