The syrup is a product of Arab origin that is composed of a high proportion of both natural and artificial sugars and that can have nutritional as well as medicinal purposes. The term syrup comes from the Arabic term sharab or xarap which means drink. In the Spanish language, the word syrup is almost totally associated with the medicinal product that is administered to people with cough, flu or some type of respiratory complication since it is considered that it helps to hydrate and recover the normal in the mouth and throat area. However, in other languages such as English, the word equivalent (syrup) is used primarily to refer to food products such as syrup or liquid caramel.
When we speak of syrup as a food product, we refer to products of a viscous consistency, that is, not entirely liquid, that contain a large proportion of sugar in their composition. These sugars are dissolved, which is achieved by heating Water and sugar to a boiling point. Through this process, the liquid in question thickens due to the presence of sugar and, in addition to taking flavor, it also takes on color and a
texture more heavy. Depending on the purpose that the product has, different types of preservatives can be added although the syrup itself lasts a long time thanks to its high sugar content.Medicinal syrups are normally made from the addition of herbs and other products medicinally approved to relieve certain pain or discomfort at the respiratory or respiratory level throat. These syrups can contain very artificial flavors, colors and aromas, which is why in most cases they are unpleasant to the regular taste. The production mass of syrups in the medicinal industry is based on the idea that this element was naturally used to relieve pain and to consumption normal in cases of discomfort.
