The Jurassic period is integrated into the Mesozoic along with two other geological stages, the Triassic and the Cretaceous. Like all geological periods, the Jurassic began due to a sudden change in climatic conditions and ended by the same reason. This period geological it is divided into three sub-periods: lower, middle and upper.
The first began 200 million years ago, the second 175 million years ago, and the third began 161 million years ago and ended 15 million years later.
The Jurassic took place approximately 200 million years ago and during that time, dinosaurs became the main predators on the planet.
At this time the weather It was very humid and the temperatures very warm. As a consequence, the vegetation it spread significantly and became the food base for herbivorous dinosaurs. It should be noted that other dominant animals were the flying dinosaurs. At the end of the Jurassic, the first species of carnivorous dinosaurs emerged.
During the Jurassic period the great continental mass of Pangea began to divide into two great continental blocks: Laurasia to the north of the Earth and Gondwana to the south.
According to the fossil remains found, paleontologists affirm that during the Jurassic period the pollination phenomenon and this circumstance is key to understanding the development of life in the planet.
In the Jurassic, dinosaurs became the most powerful animals, since the rest of the species did not suppose any threat worrying for them.
Fun facts about dinosaurs
Some dinosaurs were barely a meter long, while others reached 15 meters. It is not known with certainty how long they lived, but it is estimated that some species could reach 200 years. The vast majority were herbivorous animals and carnivorous species ate a ton of meat a day.
Interestingly, the largest animal that has ever inhabited the Earth is not a dinosaur, but the blue whale
Small carnivorous dinosaurs possessed a intelligence remarkable. Although it is not known with accuracyIt is very likely that they had intense colors like those of some reptiles and some of them shed their skin like snakes.
It is estimated that the fastest dinosaur could reach 40 km / h. In the territories of Argentina and China is where more fossil remains of these animals have been found and most remains have been found near the coasts.
Although there is much controversy about its extinction, it is very likely that it was caused by the impact of a asteroid on Earth. However, not all dinosaurs disappeared completely, but many of them evolved into new species, such as crocodiles.
