Grave words are those where the intensity accent (stressed syllable) is located on the penultimate syllable. They have a spelling accent or accent when end in any consonant minus "n" or "s". And in exceptional cases when the diphthong is broken as in Aphonia, Biology (biology), they accentuate, etc.
Words like Mary, biology, anthropology, I would play, I would eat, they are serious words and they are accentuated orthographically despite ending in a vowel as this is an exception to the rule to break the diphthong (ia).
