Anorexia comes from the Greek "a-an" (to deny or negation) and from "orégo" (to tend or to desire), which would translate into I do not desire. This is an eating disorder, in which great weight and height are lost due to the lack of food intake.
It is the lack of appetite that leads to starvation, causing serious physical and mental damage. There are physiological causes, such as gastrointestinal diseases, but in general the depressive or nervous one predominates, in which it is the patient himself who, without apparent cause, stops eating.
It is common in children and adolescents, but it can also occur in adults, mainly in women, although there are isolated cases in men.
They have a habit of hiding it from others, early attention being difficult, which forces us to be aware of prone people.
We can point out some types of anorexia:
1.- Anorexia, in which there is a fear of gaining weight.
2.- Anorexia nervosa, which can cause death due to how restrictive it can become, since it completely cancels the foods that provide the body with more energy.
3.- Secondary anorexia, which can be caused by an alternate disease, especially mental.
4.- Bulimic or bulimia, which is characterized by excessive food intake and its expulsion through vomiting or purgative.
5.- Vigorexia, in which the patient alters his aesthetic perception, becoming addicted to excessive exercise and obsessive bodybuilding, leading to extreme wear and tear.
The anorexics, try to be orderly and very reserved, they have an exact control of their meals. Vigorexics are in control of their exercises, they are obsessive individuals, they are wandering in their daily activities and they lose the real vision of their body, obsessively trying to fix it.
Usually these patients are very sensitive and influenced by the social and commercial media that surround them.
