In the carbonated beverages sector there is a commercial brand that has an international projection, Pepsi. It is a soft drink originating in the United States whose most prominent competitor is Coca-Cola.
PepsiCo is the company that markets this soft drink and is a multinational that in the market stock exchange of New York is known with the symbol "PEP".
His story began in a small pharmacy in North Carolina
In 1893 the chemist and pharmacist Caleb Bradham invented a new soft drink. For your training a series of ingredients were mixed: Water carbonated, a kola nut extract, sugar, caffeine, vanilla, oils, and pepsin (pepsin is a enzyme digestive).
The first name that the soda received was "Brad's Drink" but a few years later its name was changed and it was renamed Pepsi-Cola. In its origins, this drink was conceived to alleviate the effects of dyspepsia, stomach discomfort caused by indigestion.
The history of Pepsi could not be understood without Coca-Cola
- During the first decades the Pepsi soft drink was aimed at the popular classes so as not to compete with Coca-Cola, which due to its higher price was aimed at the middle classes.
- On three occasions the owner of the brand tried to sell it to his Coca-Cola competitors and the offer was always rejected.
- The great commercial leap occurred in 1940 with a radio jingle with two repeated words: "Nickel Nickel "(a nickel equals five cents on the dollar, a very low price for a drink refreshing). Another of his advertising campaigns had an equally great impact social (the slogan used was "Pepsi hits the spot"(Pepsi hits the mark).
- To differentiate itself from Coca-Cola, Pespi resorted to a larger bottle with a strategy commercial that tried to differentiate itself from its main competitor ("Bigger bottle, better flavor" -larger size, better flavor-).
- Michael Jackson, Jennifer López and Juan Luis Guerra, among other celebrities, have been the advertising image of the brand. On the other hand, he was a sponsor of "Star Wars" by Georges Lucas and one of the great Argentine soccer teams, Boca Juniors.
- In the commercial battle between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, the latter is the winner in most countries. However, in the territory from Quebec in Canada, Guatemala and Saudi Arabia the victory is Pepsi.
- In 1975 an impressive commercial campaign appeared with a suggestive title: "The Pepsi Challenge. The challenge consisted of blind tastings to check consumer preferences. The end result was a landslide triumph for Pepsi.
