The Mites They are very small animals, of the family of spiders, which are about half a millimeter in length. They usually live in hot and humid environments below 1000 meters above sea level.
They feed on plants, animals or other mites, they also have peeling skin as a food source, which makes them tend to stay in the places where this is more frequent such as the bed, sofas, furniture, ornaments, stuffed animals and some clothes of wear.
They are responsible for various conditions of the Health, mainly a skin infection known as scabies and skin, eye and respiratory allergies.
The Scabies It is produced by a particular type of mite, Sarcoptes scabiei, which invades skin cells causing a palpable reddish rash accompanied by very intense itching. This is located in the humid areas such as the armpits, submammary folds, inguinal region, folds between the fingers, elbows, buttocks and knees, they generally respect the head and the expensive. These lesions are due to hypersensitivity reactions due to contact with the mites, in this case with the female, which is capable of making small tunnels in the skin to place her eggs.
This condition is highly contagious and is acquired through direct contact with contaminated objects such as clothing or lingerie. It most often affects kids children, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system such as diabetics, people with cancer, people receiving steroid treatment and AIDS patients.
Mites are also responsible for a large number of allergic conditions, especially conjunctivitis, rhinitis and asthma. These are due to the inhalation of both the mite feces and the dead mites found in the environment, especially in places that have been confined for some time or where dust is suspended in the air during or after cleaning activities.
To avoid the presence of mites, it is necessary to keep the spaces well ventilated, ensuring low levels humidity, if possible avoid stuffed animals, curtains, rugs, books and ornaments that can trap dust, animals should not be kept in the house or at least prevent them from entering the bedroom. It is recommended to use anti-mite pillows and covers, bedding should be washed frequently, preferably with Water hot.
As for cleaning, it should be avoided to carry it out in a way that raises dust, therefore it is preferable use wet cloths and vacuum cleaner instead of broom, it is helpful to wear a mask during this task.
Scabies has a specific topical medical treatment with which the mites are eliminated and the lesions heal completely, in the case of allergy to mites, it is possible to improve symptoms with anti-allergy drugs and vaccines, however it is also necessary to limit as much as possible exposition to these microorganisms.
