The term acropolis is used to designate the highest area of the town, usually the one in which the most important buildings and constructions are located. The word acropolis comes from the Greek, a language in which acro means "up" and polis "city", thus giving the idea of the upper part of the city.
The acropolis of a city used to be established on top of a mountain or some accident natural on which the buildings to be built were more protected from attacks or possible floods. At the same time, the acropolis became more important by becoming a visible space from anywhere in the city. In many cases, the training of the acropolis had to watch with the first and most primordial settlement of a city, which began in a protected area and grew as it spread to its surroundings according to the needs of the population who lived there.
Normally, the word acropolis is usually related to the city of Athens, the most important and significant city of Ancient Greece. There, the sector designated as acropolis is visible from anywhere in the city and has one of the most important buildings in the history of the city on its surface.
Humanity: the Parthenon, temple religious where Greek gods were worshiped. In addition, many other temples dedicated to the Greek goddess Athens are located in this space and are visited by millions of tourists.Although the term acropolis is not usually used to speak of the elevated areas of cities other than Athens, it is appropriate to point out that a large part of them has an area of greater height in which the most important buildings are generally located, where it is considered that the first traces of the city arose or where, by eventual preference, the members of the upper classes and accommodated.
