According to the context in which it is used, the term amalgam will refer various questions.
In the languagecolloquial and current, the word is used to refer to any mix, either of things or of people, for example, a coalition, the miscegenation, of feelings, among other alternatives.
On the other hand, in chemistry, the amalgam will be the homogeneous mixture of two or more metals; Although in most cases it is called an alloy, specifically, it will be called amalgam when one of the metals is mercury.
Also, at metallurgical procedure, through which silver is obtained from mineral raw using mercury and which was used since the sixteenth century in the Spanish mines of America, it is called amalgam.
