Auditing is the process of inspecting the details of the accounting of a certain company or institution in order to accurately establish the resources available. From this use of the term others have been derived, so it is possible to refer to different types of audits, although always keeping the notion of inspecting and analyze something to know its true state. The origin of the term goes back to the Latin form "auditorius" and refers to the ability to hear.
The work of verifying the records of the patrimony of the different estates to know their Accuracy can be glimpsed throughout most of history, starting from ancient times, going through the middle Ages and reaching our days. Nevertheless, its need and importance was enhanced with the development of the capitalism and with the emergence of huge companies that depended on effective control. Its development and its establishment as assiduous practice can be noted in England convulsed by the industrial Revolution; shortly after this process is also verified in the United States.
Audits can be internal or external to the company. Internal ones are those carried out by the company's own staff, while external ones are those carried out by outsiders. In the first case, its main objective is to keep a correct control of the entity; in the second, the power to give Public Faith is added, a necessary aspect for mergers and purchases of companies.
As we have already pointed out, although the audit related to accounting is the best known, it is also possible to refer to other. Thus, it is also possible to refer to energy, IT, accessibility, innovation, accessibility, brand, environment, etc., always emphasizing a process of analysis and inspection of conditions.
