Photo of the HP-150 the first computer marketed with touch screen. It was based on a network of infrared transmitters and receivers that detected any non-transparent element on the screen.
The touch screen is as the own says expression a screen that shows certain information, which can be modified by pressing directly on the screen itself.
There are two types of touch screen, resistive and capacitive. The first type, resistive, are cheaper but have less gloss and are thicker since they consist of two thin layers of conductive material of electric current, between these two layers there is another that does not conduct current, when the first layer is pressed on the screen it comes into contact with the second and a circuit interpret where that encounter has occurred. They can be used with gloves and special screen pencils.
The capacitive ones consist of an insulating material on which a layer of transparent material conductive of the electricityWhen we press our finger on the screen, the static field of the screen breaks down because the human body is a conductor. A circuit measures where the break occurs and executes the command as if it were a computer mouse by clicking. They cannot be used with gloves, so in
winter to take off gloves to answer a call or call.Typical touch screen of a mobile, they are independent of the graphic or lcd screen that is where the information is displayed.
Doing a bit of history, it must be said that the vast majority of the patents for this system were registered between the 70s and 80s, currently the patents have expired and that is why we see this technology proliferate, especially in GPS navigators, POS etc. without having to pay exorbitant prices as it used to be. The reliability of these devices has been growing over time in such a way that we find touch screens in ATMs, cars, consoles and a long etc.
Special mention deserve the new generation of laptops also called tablets, it is doubtful that they would be practical if it weren't for the touch screens that are incorporated. The touch screen used to have a plastic film to protect them from wear, however due to new technologies of manufacturing, this protective plastic is not necessary. Touchscreens are cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or propanol.
