Knowing the capacity of the human brain and its mechanisms is an exciting task. Scientists from various disciplines ( neurology, genetics or biochemistry) try to decipher the functioning and human potential.
There are mental processes that are reasonably well known (the perception or attention, for example). Instead, there are capabilities that do not yet have a scientific explanation. And the premonition would be related to this type of phenomenon.
Premonition is the warning or signal that an individual perceives regarding something that is going to happen in the future. These messages usually occur in situations such as dreams or certain mysterious experiences. From a rational point of view, the premonition is not acceptable, because it is an illogical idea and without empirical foundation. From pure rationality it is considered impossible to know what will happen in the future.
However, the enigmas of the brain and conduct cause that from some disciplines it is considered that the premonition does make sense. In this case, it would be a special gift of some people to interpret messages in relation to events in the future. Students of paranormal phenomena accept as plausible the
authenticity of the premonition. Something similar happens with the so-called occult sciences. This type of knowledge is opposed to the traditional principles of science, which is based on the scientific method. The term premonition has synonyms like the word prediction, omen, or prediction. In a sense colloquialSometimes we affirm that we have a premonition, as if it were an intuition, because we think we know what is going to happen. In this sense the premonition is used in an informal context, even in a joking tone and it is not intended to affirm any kind of enigmatic power or faculty. On the contrary, if the announcement that is claimed is intended to guarantee that something is really going to happen, we are already faced with a real mystery.
The skeptical position will consider the premonition false, since skepticism is the intellectual tendency that doubts everything that is not demonstrable. A less scientific position will understand that the premonition is feasible as the expression of an exceptional power that certain people possess.
Premonitions have a very striking component and are made by people with supposed esoteric knowledge or exceptional abilities. Whether true or false, a premonition is an enigmatic message. And perhaps in the future it will be possible to know the mental process that explains how and why someone knows something before it happens.
