The term that we analyze has two meanings: the intention to carry something to completion and the final objective or aspiration that is desired. On the other hand, in the Catholic world there is talk of the purpose of amendment. Finally, one of the most used phrases in everyday language is precisely "on purpose".
We need motivations that drive us to action
In common language we say that "this year I have made a resolution to improve my level of English." This example reminds us that many people have a habit of setting a series of goals at the beginning of the year. The most common are studying a subject, doing more sport or enjoy more leisure time. Some purposes are fulfilled and others end up in oblivion.
Goals we want to meet
The purpose of sports training is to improve a brand or win in a competition. The purpose of studying a race is to get one job satisfactory. Sometimes we speak of purpose in a general sense and say that our purpose is to achieve happiness or to achieve success. If we don't have goals, we experience a certain inner emptiness.
The purpose of amendment in the Catholic tradition
From the approach Catholic, is part of a fundamental idea: we are sinners. Our sins will be forgiven by God and for this it is necessary that we acknowledge said sins sincerely and with modesty. This recognition is known as the amendment purpose. Such a purpose does not simply imply that we accept the mistake we have made, but that we are willing not to make it again. Thus, without a true purpose of amendment, the initial regret remains in good intentions devoid of content.
To the margin From the Catholic context, in everyday language the idea of the purpose of amendment is also used to imply the will to rectify a bad conduct.
The phrase on purpose has different meanings
Doing something on purpose means that we act with a specific intention and, therefore, our action is not accidental or improvised.
If I say "I did it on purpose" I am stating that I was fully aware of what I was doing. On the other hand, purposely also means in relation to or by the way. Thus, you could say "about the game, I think we're going to win" or use this phrase as a synonym for by the way, "by the way, how much is the book?".
