Global warming caused by the greenhouse effect is causing all kinds of problems that affect the entire planet. Among them, three stand out: climatic changes that destabilize natural processes, an accelerated desertification of large territories and the gradual disappearance of glaciers.
This situation does not occur spontaneously but is caused by human action.
The Kyoto Protocol is an agreement of the international community to combat the effects of climate change
In 1997 the UN launched the so-called Protocol of Kyoto with the aim of significantly reducing emissions associated with the greenhouse effect. This agreement was initially ratified by more than 150 countries. However, there are nations that generate high rates of contamination who have not ratified the agreementsuch as the United States, Australia, Canada, China, and Russia.
The fundamental idea of the Protocol is to start a new course at a global level in relation to climate change
This general agreement contains specific objectives for the most industrialized countries reduce greenhouse effect emissions caused by human actions in processes industrial.
On the other hand, the Protocol is intended to address global problems that affect the environment.
Although the objectives were well defined, it can be firmly stated that they have not been achieved. In fact, in 2012 emissions of dioxide of carbon grew remarkably in relation to previous decades.
A new attempt at a global agreement
In 2015, the Paris Conference on the climate change with the aim of redirecting the failed attempt of the Kyoto Protocol. In this new summit on the weather it is intended to prevent the temperature of the planet increases more than two degrees before 2020. If this limit is exceeded, the effects of warming could be catastrophic.
On the other hand, this summit sought the commitment of developed countries and those that are developing. One of the proposed measures was to create a green climate fund to help the most vulnerable countries.
Both the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Conference are proposals that are posed as a challenge for humanity as a whole. The experts in climatology they argue that a dramatic situation could arise by the end of the century if the necessary measures are not taken.
