Synonymous with astronaut, the term cosmonaut is nevertheless of lesser use although not for this less important in the world of astronautics. When we use the term cosmonaut we are trying to refer to a person who is dedicated to the navigation of the cosmos, that is, to those people who travel in specially prepared ships into outer space and thus navigate outside the limits of planet Earth. While astronautics is a science that has existed for a long time and has produced a prolific number of astronauts or cosmonauts, we can easily say that only a privileged number of people in the history of the world have had the possibility of being considered as cosmonauts due to the intense and deep preparation that they must possess and that there are always few people who fly on each trip.

The word cosmonaut joins the prefix cosmo with the suffix nauta. The first makes obvious reference to the cosmos, that is, to outer space. The second, nauta, is a suffix that comes from the Greek

nauts and what does sailor mean, navigator. It is understood then that the word cosmonaut is used to designate those people who navigate or travel through the cosmos, from outer space.

It is important to note that the exclusivity that a limited number of people have had to become cosmonauts is linked in a way direct with the intense and extensive preparation that these individuals (male and female) must develop throughout their lives. In order to be a cosmonaut, it is not only necessary to have scientific knowledge useful to the activity (such as astronomy, physics, mathematics and other exact knowledge) if not that you must also develop a type of personality in which elements such as the power of decision, the safety, the confidence, stability emotional, patience, self-control, etc.
