When we speak of a farm, we refer to the space created by man in rural areas, especially as a center of production of agricultural goods or animal husbandry. A farm can also serve as a living space for individuals who carry out productive activities there, and it is for this reason that the farm has different areas.

The farm is established in the rural space, on a portion of land that is previously delimited and that is put to provision of those who possess it to be worked, tilled and used in the production of crops or the breeding and domestication of animals. The farm must therefore have an important part of its area dedicated to production, that is, a cultivated area in which various types of vegetables or cereals can be produced. At the same time, the farm must have a space for raising animals that can stay at air free or in closed environments (which will generally be called stables or sheds). Finally, the farm has other constructions that may have to do with the deposit of the collected products (such as silos) and with the housing of the people who work in that space.

Farms can be classified according to the type of production they carry out. While some specialize in the production of certain types of cereals or vegetables, there are others that are dedicated to the breeding and production of food poultry, dairy farms (dedicated to the production of milk and its derivatives), etc. They can also be classified according to the type of production system, some of them being farms of culture extensive or intensive, rotary cultivation, organic, etc.

Finally, it can be said that farms also vary with respect to the type of property from the earth. While it is normal to find that those who work the land and are in charge of the productive activities of a farm are at the same time their owners, there are also many cases of farms that are leased to third parties in exchange for the delivery of a part of the production final. The types of contract that are established between both parties may vary in relation to the region, the type of production, etc.
