Example of Transitive Sentences

Called transitive sentences to sentences in which the subject performs an action that passes from the subject to an object or person, which within the sentence is the direct object. Most of these sentences use Transitive verbs, which are precisely those that speak of actions we do on other people, animals or things, that is, the direct object of the sentence.
For example, in the following transitive sentence:
- Ana cooks the stew.
In this sentence, we have a subject: Ana, which performs an action kitchen and this action is done on something: stew, which is the direct object of the sentence.
A characteristic of these sentences is that they always carry a direct object, except in the cases of sentences passive, in which the subject receives the action of an agent who expresses himself as a circumstantial complement of the predicate.
By exchanging these parts of speech and the verb form, to an active sentence, the subject becomes a direct object:
- The table was disassembled by the carpenter (passive prayer)
- The carpenter disassembles the table (active prayer)
In this case both are transitive sentences. If the sentence were:
- The table was taken apart on Monday.
So the sentence is not transitive, because the agent (the person who does the action) is not mentioned, but a circumstantial complement that says when it was disarmed, finally being a intransitive sentence.
Although there are verbs that are considered intransitive, since the action does not require a direct object, such as being born, live, run, sometimes direct object sentences can be formed with them, and these sentences are transitive:
- Juan had an adventure.
- My cousin ran the marathon.
